LASIK
By definition, it involves two steps. First, a hinged flap of thin corneal tissue is created and gently folded out of the way. Next, an excimer laser reshapes the underlying tissue. “The surgeon then replaces the corneal flap over the treated area where it bonds securely, without the need for stitches. Most LASIK patients experience very little, if any, discomfort. Functional vision returns very rapidly; with the majority of patients seeing well enough to drive without glasses or contact lenses, within a day or two after surgery. Most patients elect to have LASIK performed on both eyes at the same time.
INTRALASE BLADELESS IS BETTER
Vision Care Eye Center is proud to have been one of the first sites In the U.S. to offer this next-generation, advanced laser technology to create the corneal fap, the important first step in the LASIK procedure. IntraLase provides a computer-controlled, all laser approach to the flap-creating process. This is recognized as one of the key ingredients in optimizing nor only visual results but safety.
By replacing the use of a blade with a silent tiny beam of laser light, the IntraLase laser dramatically reduces the risk of complications by creating over a million, tiny, ewo-micron sized bubbles that separate the corneal tissue creating the corneal flap. In fact, more patients are now candidates for LASIK due to this unique level of precision that was previously unavailable with a blade. This precision makes LASIK correction with IntraLase one of the safest forms of laser vision correction available today.
INTRALASIK
An entirely new level of safety and precision in vision correction surgery
Each year more than 1 million LASIK procedures are performed in the US. For many patients, LASIK surgery provides almost miraculous freedom from glasses or contact lenses.Advances in laser technology make it possible to effectively correct an extensive range of vision disorders. Now the limitations of traditional LASIK technology can be minimized with a greater safety platform.
Now, precision laser technology is available to minimize the possibility of flap complication while maximizing comfort and safety. Technology re-defined. This breakthrough, computer- controlled, alHaser technology with its unique IntraLASIK software provides the surgeon with a minimally invasive approach to creating the corneal flap in laser vision correction surgery. The results are unparalleled safety for the patient and unprecedented control for the physician.
Each corneal flap procedure is customized by the surgeon according to an individual's vision disorder and comeal anatomy.
The patient may simply relax in comfort as the procedure is completed precision re-defined. IntraLASIK”' provides remarkable accuracy, and may enable patients who have previously been dismissed as high risk to be re-evaluated for vision correction surgery. This level of precision reduces patient anxiety and significantly reduces or eliminates the possibility for complications that may occur with the traditional LASIK approach. This level of Safety is a first in vision correction technology.
IntraLASIK can truly make vision correction surgery one of the most rewarding decisions of your life. A choice to be made with confidence.
CATARACT EYE SURGERY
Dr: Jon Siems has performed eye surgeries for patients with cataracts since 2001 at Vision Care Eye Center. Cataracts occur when the ocular lens becomes cloudy and vision becomes difficult. Surgery is only necessary when the cataracts cause blurring and glare sufficient enough to interfere with the individual's normal routine. The surgery used for cataracts of the eye involves the removal of: the lens and replacement with an artificial lens.
A cataract surgery begins with ocular testing and assessment of current medications and health status. The use of antibiotic drops and fasting are recommended in the days before cataract surgery. The cataracts operation is an outpatient procedure, so the individual needs to arrange for a ride home and prepare for limited activities over the following few days.

These procedures may offer some advantages over LASIK for patients who have thin corneas or certain corneal abnormalities. Instead of creating a flap of corneal tissue, the epithelium (surface cells) is loosened with a diluted alcohol solution and moved aside. The surface under the epithelium is treated with the laser, and the epithelial may (LASEK) or may not (PRK) be returned to its original position. A protective soft contact lens is placed over the cornea to make the eye more comfortable while it heals. The disadvantages of LASEK vs PRK include longer healing time, increased discomfort, and the possibility of corneal haze.
Phakic IOL is an artificial Intraocular Lens (IOL) that is implanted inside the eye without removing the eye's natural lens. PhakicIOLs can be thought of as implantable contact lenses and can be a viable alternative for those who are too nearsighted or farsighted to have their cornea reshaped with the laser, or whose corneas are too thin or abnormally shaped.
This intraocular lens distributes light to near, intermediate, and distant focal points at the same time time, providing a full range of visual function within each of its 12 concentric rings.
Intacs are plastic, prescription, micro-thin inserts that are inserted just under the outer edge of the cornea in the eye. They reshape the curvature of the eye to correct mild amounts of nearsightedness and do not remove any tissue. They are most commonly used today to treat keratoconus, a progressive thinning condition of the cornea.
